About Jason Leininger

For the past 25 years, Jason Leininger has studied the historic trades and their use in the restoration and construction of historic keyboard instruments, with a primary focus on pianos built before the beginning of the 20th century. Through his study of the tools, techniques, and materials used by the master craftsmen of the past, Jason has developed a unique approach to piano restoration and musical instrument construction.

The development of music and the expression of the human soul through music are directly tied to the available vehicle for that expression. When the tone of an instrument is interesting, complex, distinct, and unique, the musical experience is amplified and enhanced, and the means of creative expression is expanded. The instrument’s voice helps the musician convert their thoughts, feelings, and perceptions into something beautiful and meaningful, yet fleeting and untouchable. Jason firmly believes that historic pianos are tonally superior and far more suited to convey these messages than the homogenized, sterile sound that is commonplace with the majority of pianos built in more recent times. He values the interesting, unique, and musically inspiring tone qualities of all types of pianos and keyboard instruments constructed in an older paradigm, where hand tools, practical geometry, and the human soul worked together to make instruments with resonance, brilliance, and a peculiar voice of their own. His desire is to make them more widely available for musicians and music connoisseurs to enjoy.
